What the expiry date means
A domain expiry date is the end of its current registration term. It is not necessarily the date the public can register the name. The current owner may renew during a registrar grace period, and many extensions then pass through redemption and pending-delete stages before release. Domaination displays the registry status beside the date so you can see where the domain is in that process.
Where the data comes from
Results come from RDAP, the modern replacement for WHOIS operated by domain registries and registrars, with DNS checks as a fallback. A registry may omit individual fields, so some extensions do not publish an expiry date even when the domain is registered. In that case Domaination still shows the status information that is available instead of inventing a date.

If the name you want is registered, checking once is rarely enough. Owners can renew, registrars can hold expired names, and release timing varies by extension. Does an expired domain become available immediately?
Usually not. Most domains pass through renewal grace, redemption, and pending-delete stages before they can be registered again. The process commonly takes several weeks.
Can the current owner renew after the expiry date?
Often, yes. Registrars commonly allow renewal during a grace period, and the registry date may move forward when the owner renews. The lifecycle status is therefore as important as the date.
